Randomness.

Kyle has watched Roughin' it Outdoors for a while now and everytime at the end of the show they do "pictures of the week" and then select a person from there to win this Coleman propane grill - so he has been asking me to take a picture of some type of animal and send it in to them. So one afternoon I spent about two hours in the front yard, perched on a bucket, waiting for the hummingbirds to make their rounds. Sure enough, they came and went and I captured some really great shots of them (this happens to be one). Later on in the week I submitted my picture to them and waited for it to appear on tv. Well, it has been about a month now and still no picture (ggggrrrr!). Guess I will just have to wait until we go to Yellowstone to get something they really like.
School is almost out - the kids are down to eight days (and I'm counting) left. I can't wait for the lazy days of summer. Mostly the part where I can sleep in.

My garden is thriving and I love it. So far we have eaten a ton of spinach we have grown. Soon we will have peas, beets, broccoli (pictured), and green and yellow peppers to eat.

Since we have planted our garden, it has been run over with ladybugs which the kids (and even myself) have totally loved. Here is one Kyle caught last night.

I saw this idea on another blog and thought it was brilliant, so I decided to incorporate it into our household and it seems to be working miracles so far. My children would snack all day long if I let them and sometimes, without me knowing, they would polish off a whole box of fruit snacks after school. This has changed all that. I got these rubbermaid containers at Walmart and put their names on them and gave them 14 different snacks for the week (two per day). This way I still have control over what they eat, but they get to choose what they want at the time. And if they choose to eat more than two on a particular day, then they know they will run out of snacks before they get refilled. The strips of paper that are in their jars are for fridge items (fruit, yogurt, veggies & ranch, string cheese, etc).

Ok - you Rock! First of all - Great pics of the hummingbird, not an easy shot to get! and Yay for you to plant such an extensive garden and actually eat it! (one of the big reasons I don't do a garden - besides that I'm lazy, and hate yardwork of any kind! - is that, hello, WHO would eat it???) and, Love that you did the snack containers! I saw them, but you know - that was as far as it went! Glad it's working for ya, way to go :)

Love the snack jars. We did that when we had our foster kids and it really did help. I need to reincorporate it. I hadn't thought of how to do the fridge items though. Great idea!
