Veterans Day

I got all teary-eyed and choked up this morning listening to Carl Lamar read one account of a solider's sacrifice as I sat in my car waiting for the school bus. To summarize, the young soldier was putting hand grenades back into a shed when a pin to one of the grenades accidentally came out. In a split second he decided to pull the grenade into his abdomen to save his fellow soldier and to stop a would-be chain reaction if he threw it in a corner. Sadly, the soldier paid the ultimate price and ended up losing his life because of his decision, but there is no telling how many other lives he saved by doing what he did. What a hero, I thought. I will never serve in the war or army, but I can and will do my part to honor the soldiers and their families, to help out where and when we can. I am grateful to all those men and women that have chosen to serve and for the sacrifices they make. And I will continue to educate my kids about patriotism and supporting their country. So thank you veterans, past, present and future, for what you have done.
