New pets.

We are now fish owners. Not my idea, but I played along and agreed to let the kids each have a goldfish. Westy was so happy about this and probably the most excited. He has been looking at the goldfish in Wal-Mart for years now (every time we go he has to see them). We shall see how this goes.

UPDATE: It has been probably close to three weeks since we got our new little friends, but unfortunately, we are not as good of goldfish keepers as we had anticipated. We have lost our little friends at the rate of one a week since they came to live with us. I don't know what I'm doing; I clean the tank, they die. I leave the tank dirty, they die. I feed them twice a day, they die. I feed them three times a day, they still die. Right now we are down to one fish.

When Weston realized that his was dead he was devastated. He ran over to Kyle crying, saying that I killed his fish because I never cleaned the tank that week. Kyle's response was, 'that is the reason we don't own pets other than the dog we have, because mom doesn't know how to take care of them'. Then Westy said, 'would a turtle be safe in our house?'

So fun. Sorry about the fish dying though. We bought a chemical to put into the water to help neutralize the chemicals. It might help. Somehow we've kept ours around for 4 months! We thought it would die within a week...especially since the cat regularly drinks out of the bowl. :P

oh yes...I think a turtle would be very safe in your house. You should give that one a try!!!! :) LOL Poor fish. Our fish all died too. So we finally gave up on buying more and put the tank up on top of the closet! Best decision we have made!

We've had ours for over 7 months....you have to buy this enzyme that coats the fish, you put it in monthly. Goldfish can't handle tap water and the chemicals in it, so this does something to the water and them so they can live. And research the turtle thing.....Nate brought one home and I was convinced we were going to keep it as a pet, but they are actually very dangerous (salmonella) to have as a pet, they are not even suppossed to be sold in pet stores any more. I even asked a vet about it, and he said it's not the best idea to have as a pet.

ouch! He totally threw you under the bus! I thought he was going to say (in a Wise Way) that "this is the reason we don't have pets - because they just DIE!"...but noooo - he blames it on you (meanie!) That whole "they just die and break the kids hearts" arguments happens to be one of my favorites to use :) (yay for no pets!) ;)
