Now I have never been a real fan of tubing and growing up we were seldom permitted to do such an activity. We were always reminded of a story by my mother where two teenagers she knew happened to go tubing one day and sadly, it ended up taking one of their lives.
Once we got up to the dam things were going fine, but soon I caught a glimpse of Payton wandering off by himself with a tube in hand. So I got up and followed him to a spot where not too many people were. He wanted to go down the hill, but not on his own. I decided to try it by myself first.
Now I'm not one to take risks. If you know me well you know I'm afraid of heights, enclosed spaces, or any other situation that requires my feet to leave the ground. So why I went down this rediculously steep hill I'm not sure. I'm just grateful that Payton stayed behind or it could have turned out very different.
I ended up getting spun around in the tube and flying out; hitting my head and neck on the way down. I was immediately overcome with pain and probably the worst pain I have ever had. And my first thoughts were "I broke my neck".
To make a long story short, after sitting in the emergency room for three hours we were able to find out I had suffered a concussion. Now I am dizzy every second of the day, I go to bed with a headache, I wake up with a headache, my neck only turns so far, I'm not suppose to drive, reading is hard to do at times and is painful, at times my head feels like it is too heavy for my neck, and I can only stand for so long before I start feeling nauseous. Not to mention the huge goose egg on the side of my head.
Now I have a better appreciation for life, my kids, my husband, for being able to walk and to function on my own. If I would have hit just a little bit harder or been turned just a little bit more, things could have turned out a lot different. And I didn't end up with pictures of my kids enjoying the outdoors.

Well, I guess that's the last time you or your kids will be going tubing! I'm so sorry! But I'm glad it wasn't anything worse! Are all those symptoms suppossed to resolve soon? And can't you just hear your mother saying "I told you so"!
I'm so sorry about the concussion! That's awful! :( I hope you feel better soon. So glad it wasn't any worse. I've wanted to go sledding so bad, but...maybe not so much anymore.
Susan, that is scary. Glad you are ok, well sort of ok. Hope you get feeling 100% soon.
I'm so glad it wasn't worse than it ended up being. I was worried for you because while we were out there I thought the worst. By the way though... I took TONS of pictures of your kids.. all the kids actually since I had my camera so I will get them to you so at least you have some pictures of them enjoying the snow. :)
