Pinewood Derby.

Last week was our annual Pinewood Derby for the scouts. Payton worked hard all week to get his car sanded, painted and ready to race. I was in charge of coming up with the awards for all the boys which was a huge job . . . a lot of the cars were the same color or shape . . . so after a while of looking at all of them and trying to think of 'nice' things to say about their cars it was a little bit overwhelming. Each boy races their car four times and then they tally the scores. There was tons of graphite in the air and all the boys really had a good time. And since he took first place last year him and his father were thinking they had this huge standard to live up to (me, not so much). Anyways, after all was said and done, he ended up taking third place. Horray! Now he will get to race for district again. As for me, I'm glad that it is over with until next year.

aaah, Pinewood Derby - where the true inner person comes out ;) Yup - hate hate hate it! Feeling OhSoVery Happy that the 22nd is our Last One Ever!! (yay!) Good job on placing two years in a row - and really, District? Now I'm feeling happy that nobody up here is that dedicated/motivated ;) (oh, and I truly pity you the job of coming up with awards - yet another awful aspect of the whole night!)

(ok, yes, I'm a bit jaded - but after how many years of The Man being Cubmaster and having to deal with the not-so-Christian-behavior that shows up at the Pinewood Derby, and after having to endure 14 car building experiences (so far - 1 left!) it's hard to feel the love for this activity!)
